Data Recovery from Hard Drives
We recover data from all types of hard drives (HDD), regardless of operating system. We have divided data recovery projects into three categories depending on how much work is needed to recover the data.
The only company in Iceland specialising in data recovery, operating since 2012.

Why choose data recovery specialists?
Datatech is the only company in Iceland that specialises in data recovery and has been active in the field since 2012, with specialised technical equipment and the expertise to complete the work locally.
Our specialists have over 22 years of experience solving complex data recovery projects. They have received training from international leaders in data recovery such as Acelab and hold active certifications from them.
Choose a trusted provider with knowledge and real-world experience in the field to recover your data. Avoid taking hard drives to regular computer repair shops where no specialist expertise exists. We have repeatedly received projects that were taken elsewhere first, where incorrect actions or experimentation have ruled out all possibility of data recovery.
First steps make all the difference
When you find yourself unable to connect to your hard drive and your data is at risk, it is important to seek professional help immediately and not let regular computer repair shops attempt data recovery first, as they have neither the right equipment nor the technical expertise to succeed.
We have received many projects that first went to regular computer repair shops where their experimental attempts made things worse and in extreme cases made data recovery impossible.
- Do not try YouTube "fixes" on the drive
- Do not use free data recovery software
- Do not put the drive in the freezer
- Do not take the drive to a regular computer repair shop
- Turn off your computer immediately / unplug the drive
We recover data from
- Mechanical failures (read heads, motor, platters)
- Electronic failures (PCB, firmware)
- Platter surface damage
- Damaged sectors and SMART errors
- Accidental formatting or deletion
- Water damage and fire damage
Common symptoms
- Drive not spinning
- Clicking or clunking sounds
- Drive not detected by operating system
- Very slow drive
- BIOS/UEFI does not recognise the drive
- Corrupted files or folders
Data Recovery Price Categories
The price of data recovery depends on the amount of data, type of drive, spare parts costs and the nature of the failure and what method needs to be applied.
This category includes most "simple" projects. The condition for this approach is that it can only be used when the hard drive hardware is intact, possibly with minor sector damage, and for example when files have been accidentally deleted or emptied from the recycle bin. Also when files have disappeared without explanation, the operating system has crashed, or the drive has been formatted or overwritten.
This category covers more difficult problems. Data Recovery B is used in projects such as when a hard drive is not visible in "BIOS" or My Computer on PC computers, or does not appear in "Disk Utility" on Apple computers. Also when there are extensive damaged areas on the drive (sector damage). This category also covers problems related to worn read heads on the hard drive, or firmware errors in the drive controller.
The most difficult projects fall into this category. Here the read heads inside the hard drive need to be replaced. Such repairs take place in a dust-free pressurised environment and are time-consuming and delicate. After completing hardware repair, "B" data recovery methods are used as described above.
* Prices are examples for the most common drive sizes (1.0–2.0TB). Free diagnostics if quote is accepted.
Why is data recovery expensive?
Data recovery is a specialist field, and in order to offer such a specialised service we must continually learn, seeking knowledge through courses from international specialists as the market is constantly evolving and new developments emerge every year. We need to purchase expensive software subscriptions that only data recovery companies buy, ensure we have the latest versions of custom-built technical equipment from manufacturers such as AceLab, DeepSpar, HDD Surgery. We need powerful computer hardware that must be regularly renewed. We invest in new equipment every year to keep up with developments and be able to offer this important emergency service.
- Specialised equipment (PC-3000, DeepSpar, HDD Surgery) which costs a great deal
- Dust-free workspace for repairs on open drives
- We must maintain a spare parts inventory and stock the most common part types
- Ongoing training and certifications from Acelab and other manufacturers
- Annual subscriptions to specialised software that are renewed yearly

What do our customers say?
We are proud of our outstanding service and results
I received very good service. The intake process is simple and smooth. The service is carried out quickly and safely. In my case it was a difficult project but I got all my data back.
Þorgeir Arnórsson
Short and sweet.. Came in with a broken drive but after a lot of work by Datatech everything could be saved from the drive and transferred to this 'itty bitty' drive from them. A dream and everyone is happy to finally see everything again.
Leifur Reynir Björnsson
I received exemplary service. My personal computer data was, for good reason, mostly stored on one drive, which suddenly became unreadable. After a fault analysis I was referred to Datatech. There the data was recovered 100%. All communication was as good as it could be.
Bjarni Frímann Karlsson
Really fast and professional service. Recovered my data 100% and was always available to answer any questions. Highly recommend.
Helga Lilja Magnúsdóttir
The Apple workshop couldn't do anything for me and referred me to Datatech but promised nothing. I wasn't optimistic but decided to try. It took time but succeeded and the cost estimate was honoured. I can give them the best possible recommendation.
